Mathematics

Mathematics is a language that makes use of symbols and notations to describe numerical, geometric and graphical relationships. It is human activity that involves observing, representing and investigating patterns and quantitative relationships in physical and social phenomena and between mathematical objects themselves. It helps to develop mental processes that enhance logical and critical thinking, accuracy and problem-solving that will contribute in decision-making.

Maths Literacy involves the use of mathematics in real life context. It equips the learner to became a self- managing person and an inform consumer, because this subject test the learners ability to reason, make decisions, solve problems and interpret information in real life situations.

This department is managed by well qualified educators who have more than 10 years experience in their subject field. Our matric results are consistently 95 % plus and we had a number of distinctions in maths literacy.

We have extra classes for those learners who need extra assistance in the subject. We have Saturday classes from 9am to 11am which is sponsored by the H.C.I. foundation. U.C.T. students are assisting our learners on a Saturday. Our matric learners attend afternoon classes after school to prepare them for the final exam. We also have telematics classes which is organized by the University of Stellenbosch in conjunction with the Western Cape Education Department. The latter provides us with satellite transmission of lessons, where the tutor presents the lesson from the university and the learners are base at school.

The learners can interact with the tutor via sms.

Our grade 10 learners receive bursaries from Capitec Bank and this is carried over to grade 11 and 12 on condition that they pass maths in the previous year.
